Congratulations to Pen, the crew, and cast for the show’s just-announced Annie Awards nomination in the category of Best Animated Television Production for Children. The competition - Fanboy and Chum Chum, Cloudbread, Regular Show, and SpongeBob - is tough. The Annies are being held at UCLA on February 5, 2011.

Seth Green and Matthew Senreich’s Robot Chicken beat out Adventure Time this afternoon to win the Creative Arts Primetime Emmy for the Best Short-Form Animated Program. Adventure Time is in good company, though, with Flapjack, Chowder, “Uncle Grandpa,” and Kick Buttowski also coming up empty. (Actually, now that I think about it, Seth is the one who opened the category’s winners’ envelope and announced his own award. I call shenanigans.)

Congratulations to the Robot Chicken team (including the folks at ShadowMachine) along with all the nominees. I guess this just means Pen and his crew will have to win two Emmys next year.

Background from the Emmy-nominated “My Two Favorite People”

Well, we’re all stoked this morning as news arrives Adventure Time is nominated for a Primetime Emmy in the category of Outstanding Short-format Animated Program. (The honored episode may be my favorite so far, too: “My Two Favorite People.”) So a big pat on the back goes out to Pen and his cast and crew. The award ceremony will be on August 29, 2010. Here’s the competition:

Chowder • “The Toots”
Kick Buttowski: Suburban Daredevil • “Racing The Schoolbus”
The Marvelous Misadventures Of Flapjack • “Tee Hee Tummy Tums”
Robot Chicken • “Full-Assed Christmas Special”
