“The Glorriors” Storyboard

Bowing to overwhelming demand (well, Racattack_Force and SBFBCCPOM said they’d read it), here’s an unused board from early on in the first season. It’s one of a few boards that got scrapped early on, and I doubt it’ll ever see the light of day. Unfortunately, I think the episode was a casualty of jumping into production without having had any serious development time. What do you think?

Pen Pitches “Business Time”

August 13th, 2010

Pendleton Ward Pitch from fredseibert on Vimeo.

Remember last August’s in-studio presentation to the Cartoon Network big bugs from Burbank, Atlanta, and New York? The event included Pen pitching half the “Business Time” storyboard in the main conference room. The quality here is reekish, but it gives you a chance to see and hear how good Pen is at pitching. And for what it’s worth, this is pretty much like a normal crew pitch.

“The Enchiridion” Storyboards

“The Enchiridion” Storyboard V1.0

So here are a pair of storyboards from the first Adventure Time episode to go into production.

After Nickelodeon passed on the show - twice - Cartoon Network said it would gladly take on the series. That is, provided Pen could prove the seven-minute short made for Nick wasn’t a one-hit wonder. Especially as the length would move from seven to eleven minutes, Pen needed to deliver something more substantive (if that’s the word I want). In other words, CN wanted the essence of the short, but expanded for a series. This was in the summer of 2008. The network suggested Pen deliver a script or two, but we recommended he storyboard out an episode. After all, working from an outline to storyboard, not from a script, was the way Pen would want the show to go. A board would give a better sense of what was on Pen’s [Read more…]

and Adam Muto’s board for “Prisoners of Love,” formerly known as “Meet the Ice King.” I held off posting this till after last night’s premiere. If if you’ve seen the episode, compare it with the early (maybe not the earliest) version of the board, above. You’ll see how the bookending of the story of the Lava Man (he is so hot), was eventually dropped for both the sake of time and clarity of story. Who knows? We may see him in a later episode.

And, while you’re in a compare-and-contrast frame of mind, here’s a later version of the board, closer to what you ultimately see.

“Dungeon Masters” Animatic

February 26th, 2010

Due to technical reasons, I’m still unable to post new storyboards in their entirety. Don’t look for the “Dungeon Masters” board on this blog, but you can see the whole shebang by Elizabeth Ito and Adam Muto here on Scribd. Above is a short clip from the animatic. Jeremy Shada as Finn, John Di Maggio as Jake.

Update from Fred: I’m going to attempt to embed the board anyhow…

“What Have You Done?” Storyboard

February 4th, 2010

There’s some sort of technical problem with embedding those entire scripts and full storyboards in the blog. So, if you want to scroll through all of Elizabeth Ito and Adam Muto’s storyboard for “What Have You Done?” (and you do), click here to take you to the Scribd page.
