Youtube was cool enough to let Channel Frederator be a guest editor so I thanked them myself in cartoon form. As usual, my mind started to wander to strange thoughts before long.
Wu Tang Financial was a spoof of all the rap stars getting into other products outside of the recording industry. There is an animation connection. The family in the Wu Tang Financial piece is the Bisogno family. Tom Bisogno was an animator on the movie “Tron”.
I worked with Tom on “Ice Age”, and then for a while as part of the Bisogno’s studio Icepond in Brewster, NY.
Figures.com has an article asking where are the figures of Krull? Linkage It’s a good question - I know figures of these guys would have gone lumped right in with the Star Wars figures! These are fun articles these guys do - they even go so far as to describe what the figures should have come with. I mean, what kid in the 80’s didn’t have talks with their pals about what figures would be cool if they made? My buddy and I had in our heads that we were going to write to Hasbro with great ideas for new Transformers and G.I. Joes. We spent days dreaming up ideas and coloring them, writing backstories and organizing it all. Heck, we even typed it all up, my brother had a typewriter so we thought we really had something! We had this crazy notion of Hasbro realizing they couldn’t live without our amazing ideas for toys and hiring us on the spot! (come on, we were 10, we had dreams!) Then it came to the fateful moment to mail out our set of plans for the next greatest wave of figures, to wait for the toy masterminds to pull up in our driveway announcing their need for our imaginations! We put our packet together, sealed in a large envelope, only to have my mother explain to us that Hasbro wouldn’t use ideas from kids. She also said she didn’t know what address to mail it off to and it would cost too much to mail large drawings. (8.5 x 14 isn’t THAT big!!) So, defeated that day, we turned back to our adventures with Joes and giant robots. I never did quit dreaming, and I did make it out of my hometown. I can’t say that I’ve ever designed toys, but I’m close. I do work on videogames and get to design characters and build them. So, I guess I’m close to silly little dream from when I was a kid! That’s a lesson I try to pass on to my own daughter - don’t ever be afraid to dream!! And go get those toys opened up!!
As far as I know, Channel Frederator has got a world exclusive Interview with Phillipe and Pierre, the two actors of The Idiotic Adventures of Phillipe and Pierre.
And apparently, behind the back of the show’s director and creator, Dave Schlafman. OoOoOH! I smell me some controversy!!!
We had the pleasure of sitting down with one another and playing a somewhat long game of Charades. Phillipe (the head) does all the talking, and Pierre (the body) does all the inventive sign language.
1) How did the two of you meet one another?
We knew each other since birth, but we became infamous when a simple Home Ec. project went wrong.
2) How did you both meet the director Dave Schlafman, and what is it like to work with him?
We were working the street performance circuit at tourist traps around the US. We did the whole Fisherman’s Wharf, Mann Chinese Theatre, Times Square performance thing. Dave found us during our routine at Faneuil Hall in Boston. The rest is history. Dave’s pretty good to work with, but to be honest, we’re looking to take our act to the next level. We’re currently looking for representation if you know any agents.
3) Do you both do your own stunts?
Yes we do. We’re also interested in stunt work if you know anyone.
4) Do either of you own helicopters or watch Airwolf?
We only own a helihelmet, but it’s a crappy one. It’s nothing compared to the air artillery of Airwolf. It’s quite pathetic actually.
Halloween or children’s party? 5) What’s next for the two of you?
We’re looking for representation, but in the meantime we’ll do birthday parties if you know any rich folks on the Upper East Side. I guess just contact Dave for that…unless you find us representation.
Be sure to check out Helicopter Hoopla again on Channel Fred if you missed it the first time around!
Thanks Phillipe and Pierre!

We just got the good news that “Fanboy” – the original Random! Cartoons short – has made it into SIGGRAPH 2008, pretty much the world’s top festival for computer animation. Congratulations to Eric Robles and the cast and crew. If you get the chance to attend the festival (in L.A. in August), you’ll get a small taste of what’s to come with Fanboy and Chum Chum, the series. And you’ll also ask yourself, “Why isn’t Nickelodeon airing this?”
It’s Alive!!! Alive!!! That’s right Fredheads. We’re rolling out the 2008 Channel Frederator Awards site fresh out the oven and onto the secret laboratory floor.
