Bronk & Bongo

Early Bronk & Bongo

May 11th, 2006

People never tire of those early sketches of cartoon characters. . . the Simpsons from the Tracey Ullman show; the Flagstones before they were Flintstones; Bugs when he was more anarchic and had some rough edges. Here is one of Manny’s early treatments of Bronk & Bongo, and frankly I like Bronk better without the mustache. Less self-conscious. Bloggingly yours, Manny and Alan.

LOL. funny stuff! it would actually be great to see the very first sketches of bronk and bongo! did it all start on a napkin?? a placemat at a restaurant? SHOW AND SHARE GUYS!!!

We promise to post more often. And you will eventually see the early rough sketches that led to the current day Bronk and Bongo. And no, the first sketches were not done in icing by Alan.

I don’t get it. Is this a picture of the creators?

Wow Julian, you must be young. Or very isolated.

Uh, I am 16 and I guess partially isolated as I’m on this blog site fairly often. thanks for making me feel both young and isolated.

Heh! Alan and I sometimes forget that we know our characters very well, but you guys don’t. It’s part of our secretive and elitist way of working. Those fellows above are Abbott and Costello, a brillliant comedy team from circa 1930-1956.They starred in many movies where they met the WOLFMAN, FRANKENSTEIN and other famous Hollywood monsters and are probably most well known for their “WHO’s on FIRST?” comdey routine. Their comedic sense of interaction is what inpired the relationship between Bronk and Bongo. And don’t feel bad Julian, I think most people born after 1980 don’t know who they were. And ironically Alan does bear a striking resemblence to Abbott.

Penny says it all…let’s see some of those early drawings. Can’t wait!

There seems to be some tension between the two of them. So which one is the prima donna? Bronk or Bongo?

Bronk is absolutely the primadonna. Bongo would give you the shirt off his back, Bronk would try and con you out of your spine.

Wow…Now it all makes sense…I guess B&B watched these guys on Saturday morning feature…? No?

(recognizes Abbot and Costello)
Wow, it’s amazing how realisic Bronk & Bongo used to look XD
