Bronk & Bongo

Who’s the BOSS?

No, this post has nothing to do with TONY DANZA or BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN. While I had some trouble figuring out exactly what Bronk and Bongo would look like I ended up nailing their ever present boss in the second sketch! His visual was basically inspired by GALE GORDON.
Gale Gordon, was a brilliant comedy actor who was most well known for his appearances on “I love Lucy” and “the Lucille Ball show” typically as her boss or some other kind of pompous wind bag authority type and he had a great booming voice.
Alan and I just instinctually started to deliver lines in his timber as we worked and we found it hysterical. I found some pictures on-line and this one just seemed like he was yelling at Bronk and Bongo so I used this one shot in particular for inspiration. I did one crummy half finished and very fat sketch then I did this one and considered it perfect. It totally conveys an overt friendliness and an endearing “I don’t know what the hell I’m doing but I’m the boss!” type of look.
Jerry, like most incompetent bosses, attained his post in life by either being related to the right person or completely by accident. And the more incompetent he is the more promotions he gets! That is, until he hires Bronk and Bongo.

Everyone’s had Jerry Generick for a boss at some point in life. Someone who for the life of you, you can’t figure out how this person is running things. Heck, some companies are built around this concept! Who has some stupid boss moments they want to share?

Bloggingly yours, Alan and Manny.

Let’s face it people, George Bush is the ultimate JERRY GENERICK!

Have I ever worked somewhere that wasn’t run by Jerry Generick?

WHERE DO I BEGIN! I love the inspiration for your character, JERRY.
I can’t wait to see how he walks and moves! ANNIMATE HIM NOW!!

They give me the word, and its done!

Hey Stephen, whenever you want you can feel free to animate something and I’ll post it. If you want ideas, e-mail me.

Dude I totally know that guy! He was my Science teacher in the 6th grade.

I worked for a T-shirt company once, and the boss was offered 2 properties early on, and refused them I forget why he turned down the first, and the second he said the characters were ugly.
Those properties: The Little Mermaid and The Simpsons. Jerry lives!

I don’t know why I notice this, but in that photo his pupils look unnaturally tiny. CARTOONISHLY tiny…if you will.

That is great character inspiration. You can totally see the resemblence. And I would share some of my boss stories but they are so specifically stupid that if he were to read them he’d know it’s about him and who I am.

hahaha. That boss looks like a real pain in the you know what! Poor Bronk & Bongo, I hope they don’t crack under the pressures of his deadly stare…

I defer to Dilbert on this one.

Management theory says that the best bosses hire people smarter than them to do the work. Utilizing that logic, the CEO is the dumbest guy in the company unless he doesn’t understand Managment theory. Either way, we are screwed.

I’m going into a meeting with a Jerry right now. I agree with David, we’re all screwed.

I love it! You’ve created a new modern day pop culture term. “You are a total Jerry.”
