Bronk & Bongo

NICKELODEON HOLIDAY PARTY

September 15th, 2006

So in between Bronk and Bongo posts I thought I would occasionally post other examples of the toons I’ve done in the past. For some reason the change in weather has made me excited for the upcoming holidays. Yes I know Halloween is next on the calendar but I have more interesting Christmas spots to share than anything else. And recently some of them have been turning up on YOUTUBE so that makes things even easier.

All of this art was for a huge Holiday campaign I worked on 3 years ago and has still to this day been the most fun I have ever had on a project. I got to write, along with my brilliant friend and holiday collaborator, Samantha Berger, several long form spots that spoofed all of our favorite Holiday toons and themes from our youth.

From Charlie Brown Christmas, to How the Grinch Stole it. From Rankin Bass to William Shatner!? Yes, we got to write some crazy stuff and it was even more outrageous before the lawyers, who were quite nervous of being sued, neutered some of our more humorous bits!

Still we got away with some amazing stuff and we got to direct some fantastic voice talents like, TIM CURRY and NANCY CARTRIGHT to name a few. The art accompanying this post was done by me as either reference for the animators, inspiration or to help sell the idea to my superiors. Can you spot all the spoofs?

Hopefully this takes some of you back to yer crummy youth. What are some of your favorite Holiday Toon moments from back in the day?

Wow! That’s awesome bro! I love it! Who did the animation?

The stop motion stuff was done by CHEL WHITE STUDIOS. They scultped hundred of little dolls and made tons of clothes and sets. It was a frickin’ blast working on that. And Frosty was done by my pal, JOHN SICILIANO at Virtual Persuasion animation.

Brilliant!! My favorite holiday special was the one with Bronk and Bongo. Uh, well, if there wasn’t one with Bronk and Bongo, well, there should be….

Ah, this takes me back to the days of waiting axiously for the holiday specials. The days before DVDs…

AHAHA i remember these commercials! I get all the spoofs except the dill one. Can anyone fill me in?

Dil is Baby New Year from RUDOLPH’s SHINY NEW YEAR. We had originally written 12 spots that were all self contained yet interconnected and spoofed every single christmas special we coud think of and if watched back to back it was one big story. Sadly we couldn’t do it. They deemed it more of a cartoon rather than an interstitial.

i feel so warm and fuzzy!!! i recall when that aired on NICK. It was marvelous! So amazing! What about some of the Nick halloween stuff?? PETEY??

Wow! Never saw any of that stuff. Brilliant!!!
