“Goodnight room, goodnight moon.”

Recommended by a commenter on my last blog post, “Goodnight Moon” was perhaps one of my favorite books as a little girl. Written in 1948, this book still holds up as a perfect way to end the day, and apparantly I’m not the only one who feels this way. By 1990 over 4 million copies of the book had been sold, and I can only imagine what the number’s at now. Margaret Wise Brown wrote the poetic text, and partnered with Clement Hurd to do the illustrations. Hurd is best know for this book, and also for “The Runnaway Bunny”–another children’s classic

The thing I like most about Hurd’s art style and color scheme is that it is as peaceful and simple as the message in the book: simply to tuck yourself in to bed, say goodnight to the clocks, and socks, and the three little bears sitting in chairs…even as I write this…I think…zzzzzzzzzzz.
