Aurélie Blard-Quintard

October 25th, 2006

All the way from Paris, France check out Aurélie Blard-Quintard’s student film Emily & Le Hamsterosaurus-Rex!
It’s super cute, full of charm and well animated. Although I don’t get to see much of it, I love stop motion as it’s sort of magical in it’s own way. It seems most modern stop-motion hails from Europe or Asia as in Rita’s link Pingu. Anyone know why that is? Are we a “stop-motion challenged” society?

She describes her process a bit here:
The face of the human characters is made of Super Sculpey, which is indeed slightly translucid. The hands are made of tinted trensparent silicon that match the color of the Sculpey. The body was made of POLYFILLA, electric dices, and a piece of square K&S to rig the puppet. When you put POLLYFILLA in boiling water (A kettle is a must) it became malleable and you can shape it as you want.
Once it’s cold it’s rock hard, but just put it back in hot water, and you can modify the shape again!
amaaazing!
