“Day Off the Dead”, by Lee Lanier and Jeffrey Dates, A Channel Frederator Featured Film
It’s safe to say the majority of Americans have no idea why the heck we celebrate La Dia de los Muertos. In a nutshell, it stems from an ancient Aztec tradition of offering part of the autumn harvest to the goddess Mictecacihuatl. She’s the guardian of a little place called: the 9th level of hell. Definitely don’t want to tick her off. It has since transformed into joyfully honoring and celebrating deceased ancestors. People even eat skulls made of sugar as a tasty treat!
So to kick off this week’s “Day of the Dead” episode, we bring you “Day Off the Dead”. Ever wonder what dead people do on their day off? Get ready for skeleton Elvis sightings and flashers in trench coats…
The talented team of Lee Lanier and Jeffrey Dates at Beezlebug Bitcame up with this multi-film festival-award-winning short.
Says Lanier, “Jeffrey Dates, came up with the idea of life-sized Mexican-style Day Of The Dead characters. I came up with the black-and-white look, which was based on a couple of previous shorts I did called “Millennium Bug” and “Mirror.” We have some behind-the-scenes stuffhere
