Cartoonist of the Year Nomination
I would like to nominate George Miller.
The idea of a cartoonist to me is not just someone who can draw well, but someone who makes great creations. The magic of Charles Schulz and Bill Watterson is not just in their artistic skills, but in their storytelling and ideas as well. This is why I would like to nominate George Miller for cartoonist of the year for his direction on Happy Feet. I found Happy Feet to be a breath of fresh air in this year of animated films. Before I saw the film I was skeptical, a bunch of penguins that dance and sing, how could they fill an hour and a half with that premise? But what I saw completely caught me off guard. There were beautiful expansive sceneries, realistic looking characters that could retain expressive acting and emotions, humor, heart, music, and a story that wasn’t like every other animated film out there. In this trend of domesticated creatures being thrown back into their natural elements and discovering who they are, it was nice to have a break.
Thoughts?

I wouldn’t really call him a good cartoonist actually, but a good director. I still consider a good cartoonist someone who can actually draw. He’s a good director, why take a title reserved for artists and suggest anyone can claim it? A good director’s already high praise.

“The idea of a cartoonist to me is not just someone who can draw well, but someone who makes great creations.” That is the most ridiculous comment I have ever read. Why don’t we just nominate chefs, sculpters and candlestick makers as cartoonist of the year? You need to be slapped.

Most 5 year olds could see he meant a cartoonist who makes great creations. Stop nursing that grudge.

Strange. I thought I made the same point as everyone else who posted. Maybe it’s you who has the grudge.

Not sure you could classify Happy Feet as a cartoon (animated film more likely) - and therefore don’t think you could classify George Miller as a cartoonist.
Best director possibly? Cartoonist of the year - probably not.
