James Brown: Goodbye, so long.
With the passing of James Brown today, I instantly thought of this great character animation I saw on the web a few years ago. This piece was animated by Jeremy Stewart. Jeremy did an excellent job of capturing the energy and stage presence of James Brown. From the looks of his site, Jeremy has gone on to work on some great projects since this piece was completed.

Thanks for a great post Floyd, and Merry Christmas. You know, it’s funny how time and the mind work, since my partner Alan Goodman and I did a kind of animated video with Mr. Brown and Afrika Bambata. (As soon as I’m back in the office I’ll digitize it and post.) We’re of the age where James Brown was a GOD, so in 1984 or so when we had the chance to work with him, albeit from a distance, we did a Famous Flames jump. Tommy Boy Records had made a late era single called “Unity” and asked us to take the hastily, poorly recorded footage and turn it into one of those new fangled music videos. More when I post…

I paid homage to JB in my cartoon “TEAPOT” where Teapot awakens to a James Brown alarm clock. This man is the fundament of soul and R&B. Often imitated, never duplicated. There will never be another and he will be sorely missed !
