Many interpretations: Nintendo’s Mario

Have a look at this video to see just how many different ways Nintendo’s star Mario has been interpreted in animation. I especially like the animation on Wario near the end of the piece.

Wow, I haven’t seen some of this animation! And I agree… Wario is the man. He’s cranky, greedy, and surly, like a plumber SHOULD be, and that personality is captured extremely well in those old commercials for Wario Blast and Wario Land.

Wario > Mario. I always wondered, had Wario been introduced first, as an anti-hero, would Nintendo have gotten anywhere?

If you look hard enough, there’s the animated “Super Mario Bros.” anime movie from ‘86!
