The Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny

January 31st, 2007

At the religious school where I spend an occasional Sunday with 5th grade leaders-of-tomorrow, they clamored around the class computer watching and re-watching this flash movie.

It’s not well-animated. It’s not well-timed. It has no story to speak of. Is it well-edited? Eh. Does it have a snappy soundtrack with a simple equation that people of all ages can understand? Certainly.

I gave the kids a poll. Out of the roughly 10 kids, 2 of them [both boys] said they watched more cartoons on the computer than they did on TV.

Hmmm…..

Yes! A catchy tune with the ultimate adolescent power fantasy. If you were to take a page from any gradeschooler’s notebook, snippets from all of the above would’ve showed up. Why not have it all?

My kids both love this litttle movie as does my girlfriend and most of the people I work with. I don’t think in this particular case it’s the timing or animation that is enthralling us all but rather the idea of all of these different characters from different genre’s and mediums congregating for an all out battle. It’s fun to try and spot characters you might not have seen before, the song is catchy and everyone is hoping to find out the answer to the age old question “Who is stronger? Shaq or Aaron Carter? Who’s faster? Batman or Abraham Lincoln?” The rudimentary animation is almost charming and completely acceptable when you stop to think “Where would I ever see Chuck Norris kick Indiana Jones in the crotch?”

Lemon Demon is just plain awesome. I just got his latest album yesterday, and it’s superb!
