“Giant’s Kitchen”, submitted by Jiwook Kim: A Channel Frederator Featured Film
A hungry giant and his bitter personal chef find comfort and joy in the culinary skills of a little girl. I was smitten with this short when I first saw it at the Cal Arts Producers Show last year, and fortunately, Eric Homan was able to convince filmmaker Jiwook Kim that she should enter it into the 2006 Nicktoons Network Animation Festival Jiwook’s 2nd year Calarts film, “April”, was featured in the 2004 Nicktoons Film Festival and her 3rd year film, “Oh Dear” was featured in the 2005 festival lineup.
This was Jiwook’s 4th year student film at Calarts. She let me know that when she creates a film she usually just works from storyboards but if she has dialogue she writes a script to accompany the boards. The storyboards, as it turns out, were the most challenging part of making this film.
Jiwook draws a ton of inspiration from her colleagues at CalArts. The cute voices in “Giant’s Kitchen” were all done by friends at CalArts, and she considers her fellow students to be very inspirational and influential in her work as an artist and animator.
Thanks again Jiwook for being such a terrific supporter of Frederator and the Film Festival!

Jiwook is an amazing film-maker and an unbelievably quiet and reclusive person. I only saw her once or twice before she graduated, but I’ve seen her films a jillion times. Jiwook, if you’re reading this, I’m sorry I never talked to you, but I think you are totally awesome!
