An amusing meeting between a Parisian driver and a Parisian woman, in a traffic jam–it’s as simple, and as complicated as that!

Featured in last year’s Nicktoons Network Animation Festival, Romain Segaud began his studies at Supinfocom, the famous French school specializing in CG. After completing his five year degree, he directed a short film called “Tim Tom” which won numerous awards in the festival circuit. “Bip Bip” was his second film as a director.

Since then, he has worked as a 3D animator and collaborate on several productions of Michel Gondry, and directs music videos and commercials through Passion Pictures(London and Paris).

MELISSA: How did you come up with the idea for this film?

ROMAIN: This idea came from a test I did for my grand father. For his birthday, I cutout a black and white picture of him when he was 8 years old. I put a guitar in his hands and made him play a song I wrote specially for this gift. Check it out HERE. I just loved this technique and decided to move foward with a music video.

MELISSA: What are you working on now?

I just finished a commercial for SFR (telecom) in the Bip Bip style!Have a look on my website or passion-paris.com in a few days, it’s quite funny.

MELISSA: Which artists have inspired or influenced you?

Norman Mac Laren, Svankmayer, Melies, Tex Avery, Disney and many others…

MELISSA: How does music influence your work?

It’s the skeleton of the short. I did this film because I wanted to do a music video. It gives you the guide lines to develop some narrative treatment. Or…I just think I spet to much time in front of MTV when I was younger…

Thank so much for your thoughtful responses, Romain! This was a very charming film!
