“Kitty Littered”, submitted by Evan Newby: A Channel Frederator Featured Film

Dead kitties aren’t pretty. Especially ones that won’t stay flushed down the toilet…Evan Newby adds a modern flare to a classic gag-driven adventure!

MELISSA: How did you come up with the idea for this short?

EVAN: The storyline was taken from a cartoon series synopsis, which never went into production. It went something like this; Title: Flat Cat “Main characters relax in front of tv, when suddenly they hear a small thud outside their home. The pair then rush out of the house to find a dead cat on their driveway. Confused and befuddled, they must now dispose of a cat they did not kill”. The development staff and my co Director then fleashed it out and edited it down to what you see today.

MELISSA: How long did this take you to complete?

EVAN: This was done back in 1999, so my memory is a little fuzzy, but I think it was supposed to be a 9 month schedule. There was funding through several Australian agencies and tv networks who compiled many other shorts to make a three part program.

MELISSA: Who are some of the key artists who have influenced or inspired you?

EVAN: I am inspired by someone new everyday, there are just so many talented people with web sites or blogs showing there work, it’s enough to make a guy put down his pencil and sob quietly into unemployment. BUT if I go way back, I guess my main/original inspiration would be old school Warner Bros and Hanna Barbera cartoons.

MELISSA: What are you currently working on?

EVAN: Right now I’m freelancing for a great Sydney based company called Sixty 40. We are working on a series called ‘The Eduganda Panda Show’.

MELISSA: I love that show! It’s quite funny. As a final question…What do you do when you’re stuck creatively?

EVAN: When this happens I either watch some of the above mentioned cartoons, spend hours viewing other artist’s web pages and galleries or if all else fails, an all night session of Nintendo and horror movies will get my juices flowing.

Muchas gracias Evan! Thanks so much for submitting!

Melissa
