I Am 8-Bit - A show review

“Soda Popinski” Jeff Millan
So I made the trek from San Diego to Los Angeles for the “I Am 8-bit” show at Gallery 1988.
The show was great, and worth the trip. The line to get in was huge! It stretched from the gallery to well past Golden Apple Comics. The crowd was super excited to get in, and even though there were so many people, the group moved orderly through the exhibit. I didn’t feel rushed or crowded out of viewing anything.
As for the show itself, the artwork was of first rate quality. Sculpture, oil paintings, and drawings are all well represented. There are also several installation pieces, some of which are interactive.
The show is being promoted as some sort of celebration of Mega Man’s anniversary by Capcom, but I didn’t feel overwhelmed with Mega Man at the show.
If you can’t make it to the show, you can check out this online gallery with 22 images.
