Animation Mentor = Great way to learn animation

June 24th, 2007

It used to be very hard to learn how to animate. I don’t mean the learning part, that’s still tough, but I’m talking about the educational element. Schools were often far from your home, made you take a bunch of foundation classes, and cost an arm and a leg.

Animation Mentor opened to the public on March 27th, 2005. Since then, they have been training students online for careers in animation. It sounds like a simple thing, and lots of other sources for online training exist, but AM is different.

Animation Mentor uses instructors who are working in the animation industry. I’ll admit that I was skeptical of the program at first. Just because you are a great animator doesn’t mean you will be a good mentor or instructor. The results speak for themselves though. The school seems pretty solid. Are you done learning when you complete the program? No. You’re never done learning and growing as an animator.

If you can get accepted, you can afford it, and you don’t have a great animator (or two that) is willing to mentor you, Animation Mentor is something you should check out.
