Hello there. You are totaly correct. Apart from some squash and stretch in the rig, most of the work is done with blendshapes. The animation took one week, The rigging was done by tony österlund, animation done by Olov Burman and texturing/lighting/rendering/comp is done by me, Michael. Have a great weekend. /Michael@meindbender.com

Oh man, if you've ever done some claymation you'd see right away. If nothing else it allows for the character to stay on model! The clay heats up, the armature starts to poke through the character, the feet get squished as you continue along. It's really hard to achieve good claymation. This bit of 3d was really well done. I imagine it was done with Blendshapes for the 'takes' wouldn't you say Floyd?

I can think of a few reasons. No sagging of the charatcer during a long shoot, the ability to see and alter what you are doing in real time, no clay fumes, more footage output in a shoter amount of time, etc. As a CG guy, I can see the amount of effort this took to look this good. It really is amazing!

This is an amazing piece. I was actually going to post about it, but I was trying to get some more info on the creators.

Is IS amazing... but at the same time, I have to wonder: Why not just do it with clay?
