Siggraph Begins!

August 6th, 2007

Siggraph is this week in San Diego.

Siggraph is a great place to share ideas on computer graphics, see what upcoming technology is emerging, and meet up with friends, both old and new.

Last night, I went to an unofficial CGTalk meeting. I met up with fellow former Blue Skyer Steve Talkowski of Guava NYC (who told me that this is his 20th Siggraph) and FredEx animator Avi Tuchman (this is his first Siggraph).

It was great to listen to stories from the early days of computer graphics, and some of Avi’s stories of learning the newer technology, which he has had the benefit of growing up with. At one point, Avi’s powerbook became a viewing station for people to show their reels… until someone spilled a beer on it. No damage done, but Avi seemed a bit nervous, being 17 and having a laptop that smelled like beer!

I think I was more afraid of my computer breaking, cosidering how hard it was to get, not to mention how much they cost… But it was great meeting up with you Floyd, as well as hearing your industry stories!
