“The Sandman” and the Puffs Commercials

In 1992, Colin Batty, Paul Berry and Ian Mackinnon did a film called “The Sandman”. The film has some great character design and animation, and was nominated for the Oscar that year.
Although it’s a bit dark in tone, characters very similar the characters in the film can now be seen selling Puffs Facial Tissue. The characters were created by Mackinnon and Saunders, who have also worked on several other high profile stop motion projects, including “The Corpse Bride”, and “Bob the Builder”. The commercials are animated by Banana Park.
It is interesting to see such a dark film turn into such a light hearted series of commercials. I keep waiting for the kids in the Puffs commercials to get their eyes stolen, but it never happens.

Me too! Every time I see those Puff’s commercials I’m filled with a sense of horrific dread…
