48 Frames of Brr-illiance! A Channel Frederator Featured Contest!
If you’ve been paying attention to us over at Channel Frederator RAW (which is growing each and every day!), you’ll know we had a contest running called 48 frames of BRR-ILLIANCE!
We asked you to turn in some fun winter themed cartoons, and you all went above and beyond the Channel Frederator Call of Duty.
You make us Proud.
We loved and laughed at them all, and saved our favorites for last. Have your own favorite? Let us know in our Comments Section.
It’s so cool to know that Channel Frederator’s reach goes world wide, and we received entries from talented animators from parts of The Netherlands, Colombia, Canada, and all over the United States!!!
I asked the 48 Frames Contributors to give us their comments on their themes and why they chose them. (in no particular order)

Cat + Snowman
The cartoons happened because me, fluffy, and Ben Spurgin (frederator members) got together for a fun night of beer, mexican food, and ideas to animate. That’s the only reason I can say!

Winter Drag
I don’t know about everyone else out there, but I hate going out in that cold, snowy weather. To see those die hard smokers out there braving the cold on a dedicated smoke break always gives me a good laugh. This one’s for all you smokers out there taking your winter drags, I see you. Be Cool, but don’t catch cold.

Working in 48 frames is tough, especially when you’re trying to tell a joke; try to tell the simplest joke you know in two seconds - it’s not easy! Killer snowmen are always funny, and I don’t think the idea has been mined thoroughly enough.

Snowflake
In all the Xmas animated specials the main characters always get what they wish for. I wanted to do something that reflected what most people experience during the holidays - a little bit of disappointment.

SNOW!!!
Every year, millions of baby snowflakes are devoured by children… I choose snow because it’s the best part of winter.

Surprise
Ok, well, before doing the animation, i planned to do something related with christmas too; then I saw a piece of a show of the peguins in discovery channel and thought “this is related to winter too…” so I started over and did that little piece.

Carrots
“Snowmen” was our company greeting we sent out this year. It’s an animated version of a one panel comic… quick, concise, and hopefully funny.

Snowball’s Chance
This was my first animation. I did it because it was easy to do.

Cat Girl Fight
The girl in the Cat Girl Snowball Fight short is a character from my web comic, Alternate Reality Worlds, called Racheal. I have animated her a few times before and thought it would be nice to do a winter themed version for the contest and to send as an animated Christmas card to my friends and family. I chose a snowball fight because I had a video of a girl throwing a snowball I could use as reference. Just to be clear, I didn’t rotoscope the video, I just watched it over and over again until I got the motions right.

Frosty the Snowmonster
Originally I was going to do something a little less disturbing, but then Frosty the Snowman came on TV. As I watched, it occurred to me how scary it is to have a magic hat that indiscriminately brings snow creatures to life.

Snowball Yeti
I’ve been wanting to do a wintery themed animation for a while, and had doodled up this sasquatch guy. When I saw the contest, I thought maybe he’d look good all white instead of brown, and with the short frame count, it pretty much limited the things I could have him do. A buddy of mine suggested I have him throw a snowball at the screen, and the rest took care of itself.

Boxhead and Roundhead in the Snow
When you work in arts you inevitably have your own little projects that get buried by the bigger (and better paid) jobs you do from day to day. I’ve been particularly busy on a job that has left little time for me to tinker with Boxhead and Roundhead and the winter competition seemed like a great excuse to do something with my characters.
It’s also the first time you see them die, which I was kind of against, but it made me laugh enough to stay with it.

Thanks to one and all! We will be announcing the winners at a later date, so please continue checking here for that info.

I prefer my initial f to be lowercase. Also the vestigial www is ugly and makes the URL not sound as good. Jeeze!

my preferred is that of Allan dye “Frosty the Snowmonster”. Still cheer for this contest, I hope that there will be other contests of this kind,
