Layoffs, layoffs, layoffs
The entertainment industry, while notorious for doing well even in bad financial times, companies themselves still get nervous and/or have financial issues. Such was the case recently for LAIKA. The CG feature film Jack and Ben was shelved by the studio. You may remember writer Jorgen Klubien (formerly of Pixar) was let go over “creative differences” last year, and Barry Cook (director of Disney’s Mulan) was brought on to direct the film. The recent action finds 65 people out of work.
LAIKA’s layoffs are hardly the only ones this year. Several other studios have recently announced downsizing. Hopefully the new year will bring better financial times for both industry and artist alike.
