Andrew Sanchez rocks his computer animation skills in his graduation thesis “Egg Scramble”. Here’s more about the guy and his plans for the future.
Channel Frederator: Where are you studying animation?
Andrew Sanchez: I’m currently a senior computer animation student at Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota, FL. I graduate on May 8th, very exciting!
CF: Is there a particular teacher who really helped you with your work?
AS: Well, the entire faculty here at Ringling is really helpful, full of good insight and great feedback, but I’d really like to give a special thanks to my faculty advisor, Keith Osborn, who is an amazing teacher and animator, and my preproduction instructor Billy Merritt for really helping me bring this short to life.
CF: What has influenced your style the most?
AS: I grew up watching cartoons like most kids, and I never stopped. To this day I enjoy cartoons as much as I did before, if not more! I’m especially inspired by the snappy broad styles of Tex Avery, Chuck Jones and classic Nicktoons like Ren & Stimpy.
CF: Where did you get the idea for “Egg Scramble”?
AS: I got the idea for this short when I was doodling one night at, like, three in the morning hoping to find a character that would inspire something I could have fun with. I drew this gangly little dinosaur lizard and I knew instantly I wanted to bring him into 3D. There was already an egg drawn on the page from a previous idea I was considering with birds, and I just put the two together and that’s what got the juices flowing for what eventually became “Egg Scramble”.
CF: What do you plan to do after graduation?
AS: After graduation I plan on breaking into the industry professionally, and fulfilling my dreams with an animation studio. I also plan on starting another short, perhaps a collaboration with a friend.
Best of luck, Andrew! You can check out his film “Egg Scramble” right here on Channel Frederator!
