“The Head” by Dante Zaballa and Matias Vigliano is a trippy tribute to old-school ‘toons! Here, Dante speaks on behalf of the creative duo and tells us a little more about the film.

Channel Frederator: Where did you study animation?

Dante Zaballa: Matias came from the motion graphics land, he studied Graphic Design at the University of Buenos Aires, and I studied traditional animation in Club Cartoon, also in BA. This video came from the crazy idea of making a piece of hand drawn cartoon without knowing how to face all the problems on the way, all made by ourselves and always on the rush… we’re really happy to finally have made it!

CF: Who are your favorite artists?

AC: MoreFrames is inspired by too many artists to name. But we are big fans of (in no particular order) James Jean, Katsuhiro Otomo, Ashley Wood, Jamie Hewlett, Frank and Ollie, Sylvain Chomet, P.T. Anderson, Hayao Miyazaki, everyone involved with the absolutely beautiful little shorts produced by Les Gobelins, Bobby Chiu…

CF: For such a short piece, the content in “Moonboy” is pretty epic. [Read more…]

William Garratt Talks “Le Tuff Talk”

July 9th, 2009

giraffe-at-work.jpgAnimator William Garratt’s quirky cartoon “Le Tuff Talk” is only one of many fun films (in addition to oodles of commercial work) in his repertoire. Let’s talk the talk with him about cartoons, Bo Diddley, and bad mouthing.Channel Frederator: Where did you study animation?William Garratt: I did a three month course in 2D animation at the University of the West of England here in Bristol (in the UK ), which was great fun and very useful. Apart from that, it’s been very much a process of trial and error.CF: What are your favorite films/cartoons?WG: I love “The Big Snit” by Richard Conde – it manages to be both very funny and very humane at the same time. “The Cat Came Back” by Cordell Barker is another favourite, as is “Bob’s Birthday” by Alison Snowden and David Fine. I recently saw “Mary and Max” by Adam Elliot, which was great. Plus of course the Pixar films, Spongebob, and [Read more…]
