Drinking & Drawing Miami: Numero Dos!

April 2nd, 2010

Woo! Happy Friday, cartoon friends. Cartoon Hangover features Drinking and Drawing Miami: 2 this week - sponsored by Frederator and the Miami World Cinema Center. It’s produced by Patrick De Bokay and Spence Morin. Here, Spence gives us a little insight into how it all went down and when it’s coming up next.

The event has actually inspired a lot of venues to approach me to do D and Ds at their event, but in allegiance to Fred and the venue (the News Lounge) I’ve stayed put with it. I have been generating other riffs off of the idea such as stop-mo go which would essentially be animation of people in front of a green screen acting crazy via a live capture technique. Here’s the link to the one we did for the Borscht Film Festival, a festival I co-founded and a project that the Miami World Cinema Center funds and [Read more…]

Sweetest Episode Ever!

November 18th, 2009

Being a kid is radical. You already know this - as an animation nerd/connoisseur you are more than likely a giant, fun-loving child. Nobody captures the essence of what it means to enjoy being a kid better than this week’s featured animator, Tom DesLongchamp, in his goofy and sweet short “Kid Show”. Look out for his awesome interview with Channel Frederator later this week!

“Kid Show”, by Tom DesLongchamp - An animated homage to the wonders of being a kid.

Keep your eyes peeled for our new show, Cartoon Hangover, featuring the silliest, smuttiest animation on the web. For your beer-goggled, grown-up eyes only! Yes, you’re a kid a heart, but for serious, this will melt your face off.

Conniving Pigs, Drinking, & Freakin’ Ghosts on Channel Frederator!

June 9th, 2009

We hear you, already! You like your pigs sneaky, your animators drunk, and your counties full of ghosts.

So we delivered!

And I don’t mean to brag, but this week’s episode is probably the best episode of all the episodes. Well, until next week’s episode. But for now, it’s the best.

“The Mystery of Pig City!”, submitted by Garth Jones - Featured at the International Children’s Film Festival, where the creators were asked thought provoking questions about the film from an audience of little kids like “What colors are the best?” and “What are sausages made of?”

“Drinking & Drawing NYC 2.0”, submitted by Drinking & Drawing - Over 100 animators + enough booze to waste over 100 animators = this film! Good times! From April *hiccup* 2008. Next one coming up in NYC on June 24th! Theme: Bikini Zombies.

NYC based studio //kneeon! is responsible for the cool creative music video for “The Gold” by John Brown’s Body. The video was directed by Kelly Goeller and Mike Healey and over a dozen animators contributed to the film. They have asked to collectively go by the name //kneeon!

Channel Frederator: Where did you get your animation education?

//kneeon!: We are animation students at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. We have been working together on animated projects for about 4 years now, which led us to co-found //kneeon! , a production company specializing in both animation and live action.

CF: Who or what has influenced your work the most?

K!: Our influences range from Michel Gondry’s music videos to Norman McLaren, Vik Muniz to Rachel Ray, and from gradients to comic sans.

CF: How did you develop the concept for this film? Where did you find all of the animators who contributed their work?

K!: //kneeon! was approached by Seth [Read more…]

Channel Frederator is Awesomely Awesome!

March 24th, 2009

Lately, I’ve been trying to find themes for each of Channel Frederator’s episodes. This week I choose “awesome” as my tie in. ‘Cause these films are awesome! You might be asking yourself, ‘Self, what kind of stuff falls into the category of ‘awesome’?’

Yourself might answer:

Cupcakes = awesome
Doggies = awesome
These films = awesome

Hope that helps. Have an awesome time watching this week’s awesome episode.
