Happy Fatties is home to a slew of animated sketch comedy series from Mike Scott. Here he gives us the lowdown on junk food, comedy, and what he’s working on now.

Channel Frederator: Where did you study animation?

Mike Scott: Well, the short answer to this is that I never studied animation. I originally went to school for video and film production and ended up finding that animation was best suited for me to express my comedic ideas. Much like in any art form, when you find yourself in it, you want to learn more. So since the time I started working in the medium, I’ve studied animation in the comfort of my own home, mostly while wearing footy-pajamas.

CF: You have about a million films. What are your sources of inspiration?

MS: You’re close in your estimation. The number of pieces I’ve made is actually just under a million, more than Disney, Warner Brothers, [Read more…]

Animator, illustrator and music lover Mike Scott tells us about what makes him tick, dance, and draw.

Channel Frederator: Where did you study animation? How was the transition from creating comics to animation?

Mike Scott: I’ve always been interested in animation. I used to create stop-motion movies as a small kid, things like an inflatable T-Rex chowing down on an action figure.

I’ve been drawing comics for as long as I can remember. The transition was natural, though I’m only starting to get the hang of animation after 2 years of doing it and I still have a long way to go. I use The Animator’s Survival Kit by Richard Williams as reference. The early masters of animation blow my mind. I’ve been through a 9-week intensive animation master-class from Algonquin College in Canada. They ran a course here in South Africa. It was 3D animation, but more importantly they taught us some of the basics [Read more…]

Goldfish! Ghosts! Gossman!

February 17th, 2009

This week’s episode is all about Mother Nature, animals, and electro. Well, not all about electro, but it’s in there, lucky for you! All three films are dialogue free, animal heavy, and awesome.

Goldfish - Soundtracks and Comebacks, submitted by Mike Scott. Colorful animated music video where a goldfish (as in the fish) struts his stuff to the sound of Goldfish (as in the band).

Shutterbird, submitted by Randy Gossman. A camera-hogging hummingbird gets in the in the way… of… first-prize photography.
