Aw, Son of a Robot!

May 27th, 2009

I know what you’re thinking and no, Son of Robot is not the Fredbot’s illegitimate offspring. It’s animator Scott Coello’s kick ass band - comprised of himself, Matt Coello, Olly Simmons, Luke Holmes, and Sam Roberts. We caught up with them for a second to chat about their newest stop-motion video “She’s the Man”.

Channel Frederator: I’ll just go ahead and ask it - where did you get the Storm Trooper uniform?

Olly: From the Death Star, of course!

(The boring answer: Stolen from a flat mate, whose mate of a mate custom made it for him!)

CF: How long has Son of Robot been around? How did the group come into existence?

Scott: Well, I used to gig on myself around the depths of Cornwall. Just me, a laptop and my dad’s record collection!

Matt: As a band, we’ve been around for two-ish years. We sort of formed by accident… 13 members of pure accident! Naaaawwwhhh, we’ve had a [Read more…]

Scott Coello, animator/director of “She Farted and Created the World” took time amid celebrating his 21st birthday (woo!) too tell us about what inspires him, how he conquers creative blocks, and why air guitar still beats the crap out of Guitar Hero. The music featured in the film is also his, under his band’s name “Son of Robot”.

Channel Frederator: Where did you get your animation education?

Scott Coello: I… erm…. sort-of don’t have one [Read more…]

Channel Frederator is Music to Your Ears!

March 3rd, 2009

This week’s episode features three music videos by three crazy talented animators. That means there’s gonna be a lot of music and a little boogieing down. We recommend you stretch, wear comfortable clothing, and prepare to shake it. Are you ready?

Take Me, submitted by Anton Bogaty – A grizzled boxer battles inner demons – and mobsters – in this music video for the Portland based band Weight of Atlas.

She Farted and Created the World, submitted by Scott Coello – Pretty self explanatory. A bit of puppy flatulence creates the universe. Featuring music by Son of Robot - the film’s animator/creator, Scott Coello!

Kid 606 – The Illness, submitted by Joel Trussell – Slick animated music vid by one of our favorite animators!
