Drinking and Drawing

They’re not properly sequenced yet, or properly contrasted, but I thought I’d tag you to the set of all 850 drawings (UPDATE: as of Feb 4, we’ve posted 1277; I think they’re all up there now) from January’s New York D+D debut. The cartoon itself will debut in Tuesday’s –Channel Frederator episode.

Check ‘em out, see if you can identiy any of the artists, and, if you’re the artist please identify your drawings in comments.

You - our crazy animating, cartoon loving crowd. You guys made the first New York City Drinking & Drawing a total success, and we love you for that! With that in mind, we want your feedback more than anyone else’s.

What did you think? What could we do better, or differently? What was the favoritest stuff about Drinking & Drawing? How often would you want to see Drinking & Drawing happen? We thought monthly, but is monthly too much?

I wanted to shout out the team that really puts Drinking and Drawing together.

A lot of you know Dan Meth (above, center) from his series and his blog. D+D started as his solo experiment during The Meth Minute 39 and morhped into the Platform event, and now an animator jam across the globe. Go Dan!

Nothing like D+D gets done without a dedicated and kick ass producer, and Carrie Miller (right) fills both bills. She’s been with Frederator/NY for a few years now (after a stint at Camp Chaos) and produces The Meth Minute 39 and The Channel Frederator Awards. D+D is a bear to put together, and now with satellite events starting around the world it keeps her busier than anyone should be.

Lee Rubenstein (left) was a Frederator intern when he helped Dan out that first experiemental, woozy, night, and he’s hung in there even as he’s joined Next New Networks as their production [Read more…]

So we now have proof that Drinking & Drawing truly is the greatest animation event EVER. We had such a blast in New York on Wednesday and a good 250 people showed up. Thanks to everyone who came. Our office staff is steadily plugging away at putting the film itself together, so keep an eye out for that. In the mean time, the photos are steadily loading in to DrinkingAndDrawing.org. Don’t forget to tag those photos “drinkinganddrawing” when you upload them to Flickr! - Carrie

So my technical ineptitude caught up with us, and I made an error in the tagging system for DrinkingAndDrawing.org.

When you’re posting Flickr photos from last night’s event please make the tags “drinkinganddrawing” with no spaces, rather than “drinking and drawing” like we had in an earlier post.

I’m exhausted! I can’t believe the influx of responses we got over the past two days of people that want to participate in Drinking and Drawing! We want each and every one of you to get your chance to draw, but we must admit that there’s only so much time in the day. With 10 people drawing every 10 minutes, as we get over 100 animators, it’s going to get pretty late in the evening until they get their chance to draw. We’re actually at 115 animators!
Now, don’t let this stop you from signing up or showing up. Some people are guaranteed not to show up or to leave early, bumping you up in the list. One thing we’ve somewhat neglected to bring up in our bragging about Drinking & Drawing and it’s awesomeness, is the fact that there will actually be two Drinking & Drawing events happening at the same time on opposite sides of the country!
If you happen to be in or around Portland, Oregon, make sure you stop in! Starting at 8pm PST, this west coast Drinking & Drawing will, once again, be located at the Someday Lounge. Sponsored by the local Siggraph, the Portland event is free to Siggraph members, but if you’re not a member, it’s $5 at the door.
