Eric Robles in the Interview Chair
Animation Insider has just put online an in-depth interview with your hero and mine, Eric Robles. Conducted by Aaron H. Bynum, the piece covers all things Robles as he gabs about the past, present, and future of Fanboy and Chum Chum.
[W]hat are you most proud of so far, with the first season? The whole thing. [laughs]
I think the thing I’m really proud of is everything that I’ve learned. A lot of times, for a lot of new creators of shows, sometimes if they’re straight out of school or if it’s their first kind of job, it’s a lot to take in, you know? And one of the key things of having this position is really learning to work with people.
You’ve gotta be open for ideas and open to changes. You can’t be one of those guys who just says, “This is my art…. and it is what it is.” You know what I mean?
That’s not the way it works. You have to respect other people’s ideas, and again I have such an amazing group of artists and everybody has something to contribute to the show. And you have to step back and say, “Well, if this person is really passionate about this idea they have, I gotta sit back and hear what they say because it’s probably a better idea than what I had.” You have to respect everybody’s opinion, be open to learning about other people’s process. I think if you are always open for learning you’re always going to succeed.
You can read the whole interview right here. Thanks, Aaron.
