Flavio Cast and Ready to record!
Well after much debate and lots of gnashing of teeth… I finally decided on my cast for Flavio which was cast by Meredith Layne our Casting director here.
Bobby Costanzo is gonna play Bossman .
Stephen Stanton is gonna play Mr. Frank 
John Mariano is gonna play Leonardo DaVinci 
and me? I’m gonna play Flavio .
One of the craziest things that seems to happen is when you pitch an idea over and over and over… you sometimes can’t get your own voice away from the character and while we had a ton of great voices come out and read for Flavio (over 400 I am told), in the end I just kept hearing my voice instead. So I decided to do it myself.
On my very first cartoon with Fred at Hanna Barbera called Bloo’s Gang I had pitched the idea a million times too doing what my friend/co-creator Harry McLaughlinand I thought Bloo sounded like. When it came time to pick a voice we decided to go with a pro instead of me, partly because of my stage fright and partly because it seemed the best way to go.
When we got the animation back however, the voice did not fit at all with the character and I ended up ADR-ing Bloo’s voice.
I guess I figured I needed to get over the stage fright and sink or swim do the dang voice myself!

Hey man, nice to finally meet you in person, hope my biting wit was manageable while I was there. Good luck with the VO. Most fun I’ve ever had. Next time I’m giving myself a bigger part, I need to stroke my ego. Or maybe I should get that back patting thing FLAVIO invented.

Mike, that’s great that you are the voice of your character! When you pitched it to us in the hall at Nickelodeon, you sounded just like an Italian goat. I couldn’t imagine anyone else voiceing the character.

Wait Mike, you were able to join the SAG or AFTRA ? Is so, how? Do you have background in the field? Im learning alot about this stuff since im auditioning people

From what I understand you can do a one-time voice without joining but that’s it. I’ve already done that with SAG ( I believe it’s called Taft-Hartley) and I guess you can do the same rthing with AFTRA which is what we will be using on the record! Wish me luck!
