Holy SH**! You mean they started doing a new redux Quickdraw McGraw cartoon!?! I would LOVE to see some of that art. If only I could hear the unharmonious sound of the El KaBong guitar once again. Fred, If you could make that Flintstone on the Rocks DVD thing happen, would you be interested in a trade (cough Cough CASH Cough) of some sort for a copy? lol.

Fred, I was lucky enough to be the animation director for Flinstones on the Rocks. It was a lot of fun and presented some of the toughest directing work I have ever done. There are a couple of sequences that are directed to music and it took Dave Smith pitching them to me with the music several times. Speaking of Dave, not many know but this special is greatly responsible for his getting the job he has at Dreamworks. Dave used the opening sequence which he boarded to pitch as an audition. That sold them on Dave. He is a tremendously funny guy.

I would love to work with Dave and Chris again on a project. That was a great time. Oh by the way I have a clean DVD copy of the show.

GREAT POST! I recorded this on TV when it aired on Cartoon Network. Unfortunately, it was on VHS and I no longer have a player. Any chance it will ever show up on DVD?

I'll always treasure my Emmy screener video of F:OTR (...and Sax, considering how much the powers-that-be HATED it, it will most likely never see a DVD release.) A great special by the Dexter/PPG crew... and it was actually done with cels, even though studio had gone over to digital ink & paint by that time.

The saddest thing is that the Quickdraw McGraw Special by the same crew had it's plug pulled in mid-production after the execs' reation to OTR, and Craig's (and everyone else's) work there remains largely unseen.

OK Chris, now you've got my contrarian going. I'm going to get an official copy and then we'll see what we can convince the PTB to do with it.

Thanks for posting these Fred, I've always been nuts about these drawings. Craig's style guide was great, not just because it rediscovered the charm of Ed's classic designs, but also because they brought something new and slightly contemporary to them as well, while perfectly retaing the personalities. I've always felt cartoon characters have to visually evolve a little if they're going to survive the decades, but as you mentioned the only thing the Flintstones (as well as most classic characters from the world of animation) had done since the late 60's was stagnate.
