Gavin Logan was in New York the other day to show us an animated show he’s been working on with some friends, and a few comedy ideas for Next New Networks. Bill Sobel is a friend of ours who teaches at SUNY Albany in his spare time and he was kind enough to give us an intro to Gavin. Thanks for coming by.

I’ve known Jesse Willmon since he was a student at New York’s School of Visual Arts and he showed me his awesome make-your-own-comics site COMMIX. He and one of his creative partners, Julie Ann Pietrangelo, came by to show me one of their cartoon projects. Thanks guys.

Dan Shefelman is an artist, designer, and story guy who’s worked on Blue Sky features and a bunch of TV things too. He’s New York based but somehow we’d never met until the other day when he came by to show me his project “Ooze.”

Thanks Dan, for kind permission to post your artwork.

We had a full house in New York last week when one of our favorite directors, Kevin Lofton, was in with Jackie “The Joke Man” Martling, and partners Rohit Sang and Lynn Shaw. Many of you know Jackie from his stint on the Howard Stern FM radio show and are familiar with his adult comedy act. But, we discussed the team’s idea for an animated kids show.

Thanks for coming in folks. See you soon.

Jordan Geary runs the audio department at Animation Collective in New York City. We have some mutual friends who thought, rightly I think, that more NY based cartoon folks ought to know each other.

Stuart Snyder cartoons!

May 2nd, 2007

Stuart Snyder was running Turner Broadcasting’s GameTap when he visited Frederator Studios the other day. Now word comes about his promotion to leading a new youth media unit for Turner Broadcast that will not only encompass Adult Swim and Cartoon Network, but Cartoonnetwork.com, AdultSwim.com, Toonami Jetstream, Cartoon Network Video, GameTap and broadband comedy network Super Deluxe. Yo Yo Stu!

Stu and I worked together in the 90s at Turner when I was running Hanna-Barbera and he ran the home entertainment unit. Since then he’s had stints running the circus, another wilder circus, and CInar. He’s a great guy, and I hope all our friends at Cartoon Net will enjoy their time with him.

Why is this man smiling?

You’d be smiling too if you were visiting Frederator Studios offices in New York City. Anttu Harlin is a producer from Character Business in Finland who was in New York for one day (yesterday) and wanted to introduce himself and his studio.

Character Business was established by an advertising/marketing agency in Helsinki to create TV shows and feature film. Check out their showreel here.

Much thanks to Kay Wilson Stallings from Nick Jr for sending Anttu over.

Steve Levinson begged and it’s been a while, but I think Dave Levy’s given us a date. On May 22 in New York City ASIFA-East will be having a screening of some highlights from our Random! Cartoons series of shorts produced over the last two years. As we get closer we’ll give you all the exact information. I’ll be there with a bunch of our New York based creators. Eric Homan too. Hope you can join us.
