Dana Galin & Diane Kredensor. Oh Yeah!

October 14th, 2005

thelifeoffrank.JPG
Diane and Dana were in the New York office today to show a pitch for a second cartoon they’d love to do for Oh Yeah!. It’s called The Life of Frank.

(And have you checked out the posted piece of their animatic?!)

Thanks to D&D for kind permission to post the title page of their pitch.

Oh Yeah! Robert Teer & Damian DeMartino.

One of the great things about this season’s development is opening up the field much wider in New York, where I’m currently based.

For instance, Robert Teer & Damiam DeMartino are a team who come out of playwriting, graphic design, and comics. Today they came in to pitch their cartoon Gloom & Dread.

Thanks to Robert & Damian for kind permission to post one of their pitch drawings.

Larry Huber, Han Ung Lee, Jun Kyo Seo & Kong Yo Kang. Oh Yeah!

October 10th, 2005

Larry Huber has been a great partner on the 99 shorts we’ve made over the last 12 years for lots of reasons. His latest suggestions for Oh Yeah! Cartoons are only two. Many of you know that Korea is a major source of the great animation we often get for our TV series. Well with all the fabulous animators there, none has ever even pitched us a cartoon, and very few have pitched anywhere else. Larry is partnering with some of this great talent to bring us some cool, funny shorts.

Han Ung Lee and Larry co-created Shaking.

And Bit Boy is a flash cartoon he co-created with Jun Kyo Seo & Kong Yo Kang.

If these work, Larry has once again created innovation in the US cartoon biz.

Thanks to the gang for their kind permissions to post some of their sharp artwork.

Oh Yeah! John Kricfalusi.

October 5th, 2005

It’s always a great day at Frederator Studios when our great friend John Kricfalusi comes by with cartoon ideas like Wally.

Many of you have heard me talk about the importance of John to our approach to making cartoons. Though we were circling around the idea of classic style shorts like Looney Tunes, it wasn’t until we moved to Hollywood and met John that we understood how we would approach them. The value of artists as the prime movers, the make-each-drawing-funny neccessity, timing, acting… the list of influential items is enormous. Of course, it’s not that Mr. Kricfalusi invented this stuff, but, I think it’s fair to say, he was most definitely the most vocal person in reviving these notions as important in the new generation entering the business in the 90s.

For those of you who’ve never had the pleasure of watching a John K pitch, my really crappy cell phone camera caught this classic Spumco moment.

Thanks John, you’ve made a great difference to all of us.

Thanks to John Kricfalusi for his kind permission to post this drawing of Wally.

Manny Galan & Alan Goodman. Oh Yeah!

Manny and Alan came back to our New York office to show us their storyboard on Bronk & Bongo.

Thanks again to Manny & Alan for their kind permission to show some of their storyboard.

Oh Yeah! Justin Simonich.

Justin Simonich works with our friend Dave Levy over at Cartoon Pizza in New York. He came by on Friday with his designer and storyboard artist Dagan Moriarty and pitched us a show for the 4th season of Oh Yeah! Cartoons. He calls is Bayou Acres.

Thanks to Justin for kind permission to post some of his show’s artwork.

Zee Risek. Oh Yeah!

September 23rd, 2005

toilet-puck.JPG

Zee Risek runs Flying Iguanna Productions out of Montreal (where he also keeps his blog). Like me, instead of being in Ottawa this week, he was down in New York. He was considerate enough to come by our office and show us a number of ideas he’s been developing, including Toilet Puck. Zee had an entry in the Nextoons film festival, and I’m hoping we get to know each better and he bring us an Oh Yeah! cartoon.

Thanks to Zee for his kind permission to post artwork from his storyboard.

Oh Yeah! Joe Strike & JP Morgan.

September 19th, 2005

lion-lamb.gif

Joe Strike is a journalist and author, and JP Morgan is a comic artist. Together, they created Lamb & Lion, which they were kind enough to come and pitch to Oh Yeah! Cartoons.

(Yes, Joe is the AWN contributor who interviewed yours truly in 2003.)

Thanks to Joe and JP for the kind permission to post some of their storyboard.

Ryan Sias. Oh Yeah!

September 18th, 2005

fergison.gif

We like Ryan Sias’ comics. And so we were happy when he came in again to pitch us a new short called Fergison for the new season of Oh Yeah! Cartoons.

Thanks to Ryan for his kind permission to post some of his storyboard pitch.

Busy days.

I’ve been rockin’ in Burbank the last few days. The folks from Polygon Pictures in Tokyo (producer Rita Street, Director Hiroshi Chida, President Shuzo John Shiota, Creative Producer Kenji Ishimaru) were in re-pitching Boneheads.

The Oh Yeah! Cartoons creators often have another cartoon or two they’d like to produce with us. Kyle Carrozza’s got Weird Eddie.

Diane Kredensor & Dana Galin were in from New York, working with their art department, and with Director Yvette Kaplan (directing their incredible voice cast).

Oh Yeah! creator Adam Henry pitched another short called Pesky the Squirrel.

And the crew from Bob Boyle’s Wow!Wow!Wubbzy! welcomed me in with a great get together, violating every Film Roman alcohol-on-premises rule.

And then there was the next day.
