First Image: HORNSWIGGLE

Ladies and Gentleman… here he is.
My project is in it’s earliest phases of production. Character designs are still being worked out. Eventually through this blog you will know and see everything. All will be explained.
But for now - here’s the first look at our lead. Isn’t he cute?
Have a great weekend!

I’m a big fan of Terrytoons “Sick, Sick, Sidney” (those who havent seen them should check em’ out!) and this design looks heavily influenced by Sidney’s design -like Sidney with a horn! Looking forward to the cartoon.

He looks great! wonderful design.
And Joe beat me to the punch because I was just going to say that something about this guy reminds me a bit of the fabulous Sidney the elephant character that gene Deitch created oh so long ago. which is a very very cool thing.
I can’t wait to see more.
Congratulations!

Cool, but can Clint Clobber II be far behind? Don’t get me wrong, I love Clint Clobber. He’s the closest Terrytoons ever came to existentialism and free verse.

I want to squeeze him and feed him!

I also was going to mention the similarity of the Hornswiggle drawing to the work of Gene Deitch, particuarly to Sidney the Elephant, but it seems several people beat me to it. Not that it’s a bad thing–the work Deitch did at Terrytoons is some of the best of his career. Finally someone got “retro” right.
This is one studio I’d love to pitch my own ideas to. And believe me, I have plenty.

It’s not a bad thing to be influenced by someone else’s work as long as you give credit where it’s due. And I have to agree, this rhino SCREAMS Sidney the elephant.

I’m happy to say Gene Deitch is a friend of mine - and I’m officially his biggest fan (he told me so himself!).
Viacom owns the classic Terrytoon cartoons and I want HORNSWIGGLE to fit into Gene’s 50s stylized universe. This short is an intentional homage to that wonderful, and rarely seen these days, shorts.
However, there is a “Looney Tunes” edge to this film and I believe it will be a satisfying combination.
Next week, when I get back from Ottawa, I’ll have much more art to post - and explain more of what we are up to.
