Double Fantasy

June 6th, 2006

As a young Jun, I eagerly poured through my Dungeon Master’s manual and memorized all the spells. I thought Dragonslayer was awesome. I read nothing but fantasy novels (and the occasional sci-fi). I worshipped Tolkien, and I painted a mural of a giant blue dragon sitting on a huge pile of gold (ala Smaug) on my bedroom wall, and I wrote a poem about the dragon and translated it into Elvish from the runes in the back of the Lord of Rings book. I sculpted my own “fire lizard” from the Dragonriders of Pern series.

And suddenly, during the 90’s, the fantasy genre dried up. In the movies, on TV - was it suddenly geeky and unpopular to like fantasy any more? Had it gone ‘out of style’? Where were my elves? Where were my dragons?! To get my fantasy fix, I discovered Renaissance Faires - not really pure ‘fantasy’, but I bought a lot of swords (and learned how to draw them).

And then something magical happened to revive the fantasy genre. A little book called Harry Potter! And suddenly Peter Jackson was given a proper budget to create the Lord of the Rings trilogy. And boy, did them movies make money! Turns out the fans were there all along - Hollywood just needed to realize it. Fantasy is back in the spotlight, and boy, am I happy!

Very, VERY cool props! And nice dragon! Its a sexi dragon ;) -Steve

Ah yes..I too loved to play Dungeon’s and Dragons..though my friends at school had no idea..haha…I loved painting the little figurines, and drawing pictures of my elf characters..I also would get lost in movies like “The Never Ending Story”, “The Dark Crystal” and “Labyrnth”…I didn’t play with Barbie, I had Princess Leia dolls instead…where were you Jun??? We could have had Elven Drawing contests!!!

YEAH! A girl after my own….geekiness.

My sword has a +2 against dragons.

Hmm wonder how my Crul’shorukh, Edge of Chaos would fare against Smog… Whoops, sidetracked there.

And that’s a mighty dragon there Jun, a nasty one if I’ve ever seen one. Especially those beady, mostly closed eyes - can never trust a squinting dragon!

It’s not squintingg! It’s dead!

I was happy to discover that your blue dragon was still guarding your room after all these years.

I just came to the realization that I may be your number 1 fanboi, Jun. WooT! Bloodgroove on the sword! BTW, I’m seriously going to take a picture of Rosemary’s House and send it to you. As anyone in the car with me as I pass it will tell you, I always vocally share “That’s Rosemary’s House!” - and then they’re like “Rosemary?!” - and then I get to tell them allll about your show! I’m a marketing GENIUS!

Yeah! I want to see the pic! Go man go!

I wonder how many times we passed each other at Ren Faire never knowing that one day our paths would cross playing a fantasy game. My trinket has a +3 charisma. Machinima actress for hire. Will work for game cards!!
