October 25th, 2006

chfred.jpg

As most of you may, (or may not) know, recently I was asked to be a News Correspondent on Frederator’s Channel Frederator by Fred Seibert himself.
With Channel Frederator, we will be serving you dishes of the most current Animation news & the hottest interviews with animators/artists from all nooks, crannies, and parts of the globe.
Mainstream, commercial, indy, folksy, outsider, chicken scratch, you name it.
Doesn’t matter if you’re a Hollywood Bigshot, still in school, or a bearded hermit off in the woods animating rocks and leaves (like me) for the hell of it…
We want your story!
It’s all about the frame by frame love baby, the love.
Help spread the Love people!
If you, or someone you know, would like to be featured or interviewed on Channel Frederator, drop us an email at:
promotecartoons (at) gmail(dot)com
As always, to suscribe to CH.Fred, go to: http://www.channelfrederator.com/ or you can also go to ITunes.

Re-Animation: An Evening W/ Lewis Klahr

October 13th, 2006

I know I’m jumping the gun on this one, but I found out about it in the nick of time.
One of my favorite film-makers Lewis Klahr is having a few films screened October 16th, 2006 at Calart’s Redcat in Los Angeles, 8:00pm.
I was able to sit in (unofficially) on a few of his classes at Calarts during my time there, when I should’ve been in my animation classes.Needless to say, I learned alot from that time spent ditching those classes.
(I don’t recommend this behavior for anyone, but it always worked for me.)

Action Team Fred Go Ultra Ritmo!!!

October 10th, 2006

So I was just zoning out, drawing, nothing in particular, til this popped in my head. The Team Fred Robot, Version Jeaux point Style.
The tighty whitey undies are a nod and tip of the hat to Eric Homan, who somewhat fueled that idea. As it turns out I’m meeting Fred (Seibert) this Thursday for the first time, and Eric suggested that I wear my underwear on the outside of my pants.
I also can’t forget the time that, while in worry mode over one of my first pitches to Team Fred, Eric told me I should dress up like a princess and make sure my tiara was set in place.
That Eric. He sure has a great sense of humor!
Looking forward to meeting you Fred.
See you guys Thursday!

Ahoy Mateys!
This be yer Cap’n Jeaux Janovsky speaking, wanting to let ye know I didn’t want to be leavin’ ye with nothin’ to do on yer cursed Lunch Break. I done took the liberty o’ taking a break from workin’ on the Fredex project, to get something in front o’ yer bloodshot pupils.
nappyheadrhonda.jpg

This young, ruff and tuff lass is none other than Nappy-Head Rhonda! How she get’s that blasted bandanna round her thick, poofy, sea-mist plastered orange hair is beyond me bucko! Aye, but she has a beautiful smile… but don’t let it fool ye… she’ll rough you up something good in the face if you make fun of her! You should see the last poor kid she hospitalized after he called her Napoleon Dynamite!

Between Bedrock and a Hard Place

September 19th, 2006

Recently, I found Joe Barbera’s book My Life in Toons at the local library. I haven’t been able to put it down since. It’s a very insightful read and peek into this man’s life.

Before Joe Barbera got into the crazy world of Cartoons, he worked at a bank as an assistant tax man for six, long, dark years. His only escape and solace were his lunch breaks, where he would spend an hour, perched on a convenient headstone at the local cemetery across from the bank. He would sit down, a sandwich in one hand, a book in the other. For that hour, his mind would wander in and out of books like Somerset Maugham’s Of Human Bondage or Rudyard Kipling’s The Light That Failed.
At about this time, Joe was also reading the magazines of the day as well. Redbook, Saturday Evening Post, and Collier’s. He would spend his nights after [Read more…]

Kinda Top Secret

September 11th, 2006

So I’ve been working on the Kinda Top Secret FredEX project for awhile, and have finally nailed down a character design I’m happy with for the project. I can’t really go into the specifics, all’s I can say It’s been fun.
Here’s one of the characters:

Anyone know where I can score some good Royalty Free Bossanova Jazz circa late 50s early 60s? I’ve also been listening to a hecka bunch of Astrud Gilberto. She was awesome.

I hope everyone had a great 3 day weekend.
Now no one will see me for at least a week, seeing as I just purchased Lost season 2, Entourage season 1, and The Wizard (starring Fred Savage) and will be in a dvd hibernation coma.

Jeaux Gets DRAWN!

Meet Unda-Roo Stu!
underoo-stew.jpg

He’s a cute one ain’t he? He finally came together for me, as a piece, when I painted in his hair. Cristina’s 5 year old niece, Mia, gigled when she saw the undies on his head. Mia’s my Testing Audience. If i can get her to automatically smile and giggle when she first sees a picture, I know I done did good.
Here’s some more quotes from GPK hall of famers on Peg Leg Orphanage:
“I think your characters are fun, I especially like Octopus Headed Sally. I can easily imagine them animated.”- Patrick Glover
“It seems very interesting and appears you’ve been a very busy artist!”- Aron Laikin
“Your Peg-Leg artwork is very charming in a throughly perverse kind of way.”- Howard Cruse
“You have some nice low-browish art”- Luis Diaz
“Cool stuff man! Good luck with the project man, I’ll keep an eye out for the pirates ! ARrrr!!”- Efrain Cintron
“I think

Peg-Leg Orphanage Press!!!

“Glad to see another GPK fan infecting the virus ever onward.”-Mark Newgarden, Garbage Pail Kids Creator

Meet Markied-Mark. Yet another Mutant Pirate Baby looking for a good home.
Peg-Leg Orphanage made the Las Vegas City Life’s City Pick.
“Remember Garbage Pail Kids? Those politically incorrect, hideously deformed whelps dripping with snot and crawling from sewers? They typified everything that made the ’80s great, especially the fascination with twisted innocence that gripped the national psyche in the post-Vietnam era of AIDS, crack and punk rock. They weren’t even that funny, but with names like Arlene Latrine and Didi T., they were sort of brilliant and formed an archetype.

At the moment, the national psyche is, for whatever reason, gripped with black pearl-mongering pirates. It won’t last, but appropriate to this moment, the Funkhouse is hosting Peg-Leg Orphanage, a nursery in paint crawling with the cute bastard children of those other cute bastard children, all bug-eyed [Read more…]
