Bargain Bin: Wallace and Gromit

February 2nd, 2008

I was at the toy store today and had a look in the bargain bin. I found Wallace and Gromit, all set to catch rabbits, as seen in their film “Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit”. Each figure was $3.98.

These figures are from McFarlane Toys. As with nearly all of their toys, the characters are not very poseable, but look nearly exactly like the characters they are supposed to be.

Wallace comes with several vegetables, a flash light, a garden gnome, and a bunny catcher.

Gromit comes with a sack that contains one rabbit.

The rabbit can come out of the sack as well.

Both figures are in clear plastic, sealed around all edges. These kinds of packages are nearly impossible to open without the aid of a good pair of scissors.

The figures are on an inner molded piece which holds all their accessories in place.

All pieces are pretty well secured with metal twist ties.

The inner card art unfolds to show you the complete line of figures as well as give you more information on other McFarlane toys from the film.

Overall, I’m pretty happy with these figures. They look great as a set, and they do a great job of capturing the personality of Wallace & Gromit. My only complain, and it’s minor, is that there are some holes on the back of Gromit that are quite visible.

This is because Gromit (and I’m guessing Wallace is built the same way) has an internal wire structure you can bend to help pose him. He doesn’t pose that well, so I don’t think the internal armature was worth the holes all over his back, but again, this is minor.

Overall, these are great toys, and if you are a fan of the characters and film, then you should add them to your collection.
