When you care to send the very best…

February 12th, 2008

Hey gang!

Sorry for the slow blog - kinda crazy in my life right now - moe on that later…

ANYWAY, I was just thinking, Valentine’s Day coming up and all, don’t forget the power of toys as a great gift! Sure, store bought toys can be wonderful gifts, but if you really want to lift someone’s spirits, why not make one yourself? Heck, it doesn’t have to be a holiday, maybe you just want to give them a good laugh or let them know they mean something to you!

About a year or so ago, one of my best pals ended up having surgery on his neck - from an injury he suffered several years prior. He got some sort of replacement parts in his spine - all titanium experimental stuff. So, while he was out on recovery leave I decided he needed a good welcome back gift - an action figure of himself! So, I grabbed a Masters of the Universe Mec-A-Neck figure (for the obvious extending metal robo-neck gag), a movie Hulk figure, and some Ken Doll clothes. Aftr a couple evenings of cutting, sanding, glueing, painting - he was almost done. But every action figure needs a good weapon! My pal is an avid meat eater of world sausages and Spams, so I armed him with a magic lasso of sassages! Here’s how he turned out….

He came back from his time off and found that waiting at his desk. He loved it! And just to add an extra ounce of personalization to it - the outfit (supplied by my daughter who said it looked like him) matched an actual outfit he owns! Bonus!! So, here’s the pic of him and his prized figure, and his matching outfit!

So, get out there and make someone’s day! And, remember - get those figures out of their packages before they turn blue!!

Awesome post. Matt is one of the best toy modification guys I know. Hopefully he sees fit to do a step by step breakdown of his process someday when things calm down a bit.
