Executive pitch.
Today was a confusing pitch for all. Alan Goodman and I (Fred) were the pitchers.
Six Monsters is a show that Alan and I have developed. For each of the sketches that will make up the short we’ve brought in
and Alex Kirwan (I can’t find his board right now); Rob Renzetti will direct and time.
Usually the pitches are made to Eric, Melissa and Larry, and eventually brought to me (and Claudia Spinelli from Nickelodeon) for a final pitch. Everyone has made comments to the creator and I give the eventually thumbs up/down on whatever projects we go forward with. But, in this case, I was part of the creator team pitching the others. They gave Alan and me notes –I think everyone, me included, was confused– we’ll take them into account and re-pitch the parts that are necesary.
Then, add in that I’ve been laid up and stranded in NY with illness, and unlike most of our pitches, this was one was made up of eight mini-pitches (the skits that make up the short) and I’m not sure that any of us actually know what was going on.

wow, this looks really cool! Now with six monsters, is it going to be 7 min for each? Or splitting it and everyone gets about a minute and change?

This project’s a pain. But a good kind of pain, I guess. The logistics are a bit overwhelming. Today’s pitch represented the work of the short’s creators, 2800 miles away, and individual segment creators in three different states – guys whose day jobs are at Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, Disney, and two other studios. Three different directors. Three different media: traditional; Flash; and CG. Eight separate storyboards. Worst of all, the conference room’s speakerphone was on the fritz throughout the pitch. I’m friggen dizzy. In any event, this afternoon’s meeting was a huge step toward the realization of this cartoon experiment. Thanks to all involved.

Yay “Six Monsters”! I think it will all pay off in the end. There’s a reason there aren’t any other shos like this on TV.
