Sailor Bird Color Compromise?

August 16th, 2005

Ok, thankfully, Fred has clarified that don’t have to change Sailor Bird. Still, I thought I’d give another, smaller variation a try in order to try to solve the problem, yet keep Sailor Bird looking like herself. I used her original color scheme, but made her feathers a paler yellow. Thoughts?

The paler yellow is great! I think it’s a good choice, and a good compromise :) I know how difficult changes can be…you want to stay true to your heart, no matter what.

Woo, I think she looks even better than the original color scheme.

I like this version. It is sad to see the bright yellow change but this is far enough not to look like Tweety but close enough not to change Sailor Bird a lot.

hey there bro, I think the paler yellow was a good choice. It looks lovely. By the way, I never ever looked at sailor bird and thought Tweety…she’s uhh quite a bit larger. Have fun seeya around!

Great choice. I know that as an artist it’s hard to make changes to your characters. Especially when you’ve worked so hard to finally get them the way you wanted. Again great choice.

I guess this my answer to the previous color post. I like it!

Yeah, I think the pale yellow is the way to go. It’s hard to come up with other colors to use for her feathers… if you make them red, you’d have to mess with the hair color, probably the bow too.

As it stands, I think she still has a bit of a Tweety structured face to her, but it’s nothing very distracting.

Best of Luck with this!

Yep. You kept the blue, which you needed to do. The pale yellow is a good solution. My only concern would be getting her to “pop” from the backgrounds, that are also usually toned down colors.

The rest of her is so bright, I don’t think it’ll be a problem, especially considering the type of backgrounds I’ll have. I’ll get into this more when I have some of Craig Elliot’s sweet backgrounds to show off, but rather than do flattish outlined backgrounds, I’m going for exaggerated form, realistically painted backgrounds like the ones in Hercules and Emperor’s New Groove (both of which Craig has worked on). It’s a lot easier to make characters read with backgrounds like that, I’ve always thought.

I didn’t know you had your background artist all set-sounds like a good choice for what you want to achieve-I’m getting excited to see the finished product!

Looks like we have a winner!

That one looks perfect!

*gives thumbs up*

That’ll work just fine.

Love the pale yellow. Good compromise.
