An encaged circus bear dreams of his liberation. Trapped by his fear, his wishes to escape are visualised through a ghost twin.

Ljubisa Djukic studied at the Animation School Hamburg, and is the Art Director and founder of the dyrdee media company located in Berlin, Germany.

I had the pleasure of seeing this film screened at the Ottawa Film Festival last year, and in my opinion, it was one of the most memorable ones at the festival. The expressions that Ljubisa is able to achieve on his characters makes for a very heartfelt short.

Bob’s having a bad day and to top it off, now he has to lay waste to his new sales manager who’s eating other employees. Just another long day at the office…

Ed Skudder is a sophomore at the University of Southern California studying film. He’s been drawing since childhood and took up animation in middle school, having been a long-time fan of cartoons. “Freelance animation is paying the bills these days and when I’m not making movies I’m trying to play the guitar.”

I first saw this short featured on Cold Hard Flash, and started cracking up as soon as I heard one of the characters say, “He put herbivore on his resume, Bob, what was I supposed to think?”. I was so impressed, I tracked down Ed on Newgrounds. Check out another one of his music videos for Ben Folds Five.

Ed, I continue to be impressed with your filmmaking [Read more…]

“Engrish Bwudd”

August 16th, 2006

engrish_1.jpeg

Says filmmaker Lindsay Kovnat, “The song is an abstract narrative. A girl and guy are in love. The guy happens to be a really uncivilized woodland guy. The girl is a sophisticated lady and her father is a very rich egg-man who resides in a Barbie Dream House. There is a stop motion giant who threads the scenes together in a Fee Fi Fo Fum kind of way.”

Engrish Bwudd was a 9 month process using stop motion 2D drawn animation, and pixelation techniques. It was put together in co-creator Kent Beorsma’s basement and both Kovnat and Beorsma make an appearance in the piece.

“Engrish Bwudd” will premier on Episode 3 of the Nicktoons Network Animation Festival, August 27th, at 10PM EST/ 7PM PST.
