An Old Cartoon about a New Car

We’re finally on the highway with our “Planes, Trains, And Automobile Week” here at downtown ReFrederator. From the cartoon garage of Ub Iwerks, out drives Flip the Frog in “The New Car,” vintage 1931.
Flip picks out a new car. Car acts like a pretty girl giving Flip the come-on. Car acts like faithful dog, doing tricks, licking hands. Car acts like crazy old drunk, hiccups and staggers. Car acts like he’s the real star here, and the amphibian wearing the hat is merely along for the ride.
There’s plenty of Iwerks’ trademark here: crude and mildly off color gags that turn out not to be, technically, neither (a sparrow goes looking for ‘droppings’ in the road, another makes a ‘mess’ on Flip’s car, etc.) Oh yeah — Jewish and a gay stereotypes are thrown in for good measure!
Tomorrow we step on the gas with our last transportation toon. Classic cartoons, designed to drive you crazy, here at ReFredrator.
