Cream of the crop. Pick of the pack. Maybe the best Popeye in the history of, like, ever. Anyway, it’s a pretty good one.

Fleischer’s super production “Popeye the Sailor meets Sinbad the Sailor” was the first color film for the comic strip hero, his longest adventure to date (it runs over 16 minutes, so hold your calls before you play the download) and it nabbed our squinty gob an Oscar nomination. Shoulda won — this one’s a pip! The story is unusually well constructed, with plenty of time for impressive special effects and great music. And this one is really, really funny (crank up the volume — all the best lines are mumbled by the characters.) Popeye, Olive Oyl and Bluto (as Sinbad) have never been better. Oh, and Wimpy shows up too! I always give extra points to any Popeye short with Wimpy!

Oh, my God! I thought I was stoned and imagined I saw this the one time I did. I’ve been questioning my sanity ever since.

Thanks! This one’s a keeper!
