Betty Boop, 1931: You have a freakishly large head attached to a teeny, child sized body. You greet every situation with a naughty song and inappropriate sexual innuendo. You hang out with bizarre beast-people and a creepy looking clown. And everybody loves you.

Betty Boop, 1939: You have almost normal proportions. Your attitude and deportment are discrete and circumspect. You have a nice car — tasteful clothes —a chin. And everyone says you’re boring. Or they simply shoot at you.

Today’s cartoon, “Musical Mountaineers” is later-day Boop, and it starts out like Max Fleischer’s version of “Deliverance” — murderous hillbillies threatening repressed city dweller. Then we launch into a fabulous production number, with ridiculously catchy music and everybody indulging in some really goony dance animation. Great stuff — just great!

It’s the Some Dance Film Festival at ReFrederator.
