Short on Sniffles, Long on Laughs
Okay! Okay! Okay! We cheated LOTS by sneaking “I Wanna Be a Sailor” into Heart Tug Week. I mean on paper it sounds like the sort of tearjerker Disney and MGM used to spit out like popcorn hulls: Cute youngster disobeys loving parent, is nearly killed then has tearful reunion with Mom. The end. Only this ain’t no Silly Symphony. It’s a Warners’ cartoon — directed by Tex Avery, no less, and none of the all bird cast seems to take their roles very seriously. For one thing, they keep busting that fourth wall, stopping dead in their tracks just to talk to us!
Yeah, things are pretty sob free today, but brace yourself — there are one or two laugh out loud moments that might have you tearing up anyway.

For a minute there, when that momma parrot fainted and hung upside down on her perch, I was thinking I’d need to return her to the pet store and argue with the clerk as to whether she was dead or “just restin’”.

A Python parrot! No doubt. Now how many funny walks do you think J.Cleese borrowed from old cartoons?
