“Solomon Fix”
My short has a title and it’s called Solomon Fix. I was going to call it “Stuffed” but I thought that might sound more like a porn site. I have an unspoken rule where if I can’t lock down the domain name of a character I’ll rename the show. Mostly because if there was an Asian under-aged panty site called Solomon Fix I’d hate to create the next Spongebob only to have the kids sending free traffic to a bunch of scumbags.
On the legal side of things we’ve been going around trying to get the deal signed. I think we’re almost there. My 3D team have been creating resources for Solomon Fix without getting paid (until I sign the contract we can’t get them money) so there are lots of resources being made that I can’t show you…if we haven’t paid for them, we don’t own them yet! Legal mumbo jumbo, I know, but I thought you might be interested in how it works behind the scenes. I was always suprized at how much duct tape there is holding the whole thing together that is hidden from our audience.
Legal documents are weird because they are the first time the art side of a project is introduced to Mr. Commerce. The battle begins and continues until the project is off the air. Anyone who has read a standard contract can sympethize with Dick Cheney when he shot his lawyer.
Many of you are familiar with my comic book called Solomon Fix (click here to see a sample page) and you might wonder why I changed it so much for Frederator. I primarily didn’t want to make two cat shows in a row. Catscratch is a great cat vehicle and I wanted to explore the world of teddy bears.

Very interesting Doug! long time no post, i was wondering what was going on. Its awfully nice of those guys to be working for free! I dont kno if you’ve been checking the blog, but i pitched down in NYC to Fred the 26th and now im waiting to hear their response about what they want to do with it. Fred seemed to like it which was good, now just need Eric/Larry opinion. And Melissa too i think. Well talk soon! Cant wait to see your 3d masterpiece! All the best! -Steve

By the way Doug, what do you mean by its a 3d animation on a 2d screen?

Hi, Doug. It’s great when behind-the-scenes truths are told; for the rarity alone… Regardless and perhaps because of these experiences, the very talented and dedicated triumph
Love your work and your notes are dead on re: better to be funny than stiffly accurate. Good luck with all! Lina

Q: By the way Doug, what do you mean by its a 3d animation on a 2d screen?
A: The short is being done in computer generated 3D. But it is displayed like all TV shows on a 2D surface (your TV screen). I just like to remind 3D people to think of thier final work in 2D terms instead of in 3D terms. My team has classically trained 2D animators so it’s not going to be a problem…you’ll see.

oh i see.. I was wondering why you like having them keep that in mind. How would it come out differently if they werent informed? (thats not suppost to come out as a rude question)

Wow! Solomon is being brought to the small screen!
Is there just a team of British Safari-men following you around in a Savana Jeep constanting shooting you with Caffeine darts?
Because the only other way I could imagine you being so productive… is I guess with black magic.
But honestly, can’t wait to see it, this is really exciting!
