I love Yaki's pose. It's like something out of Hamlet. If it were a t-shirt, I'd wear it! :o)

Yes HRVD, that is why I think you will like Yaki and Yumi..although there is a cuteness and charm, they are stupid, demented, and dysfunctional..they mean well, but they just somehow miss the mark..much like the three stooges.

There's different types of cute. There's the type of cute that induces vomiting, and the various other types that work well in cartoons.

Examples wretched saccharin cuteness include Sniffles the mouse, Dora the explorer, and most Disney characters.

Cuteness works best when combined with other personality traits like stupidity, psycho-neurosis, or evil. Ren and Stimpy, and Mini-Me from Austin Powers are the best examples.

The best use of a cute character ever devised was in Fred Avery's Nutsy Squirrel MGM cartoons. Nutsy is best remembered for beating the crap out of the cute squirrel in the cartoon.

That's a great start. Do you think they would allow something like the Ren and Stimpy episode with Bubba getting the hair licked off his body to make hairballs?

"SQUEEZE THAT MONKEY!"

There's a really great gag on the wall involving ice cream and the removal of Yaki's head that I've always been fond of.

Well for the person who is annoyed about the cute factor, so far I
only see one comment saying they are cute so I don't think there is
danger in being tooooo cute. I suggest you watch "What the Bleep do we
Know" regarding the toxic effects on society when it focusses on blood
and guts only. Speaking of Ren and Stimpy...wasn't Stimpy CUTE?
I see so many well meaning, glowing, compliments on this blog on the cuteness of the characters. Cuteness has it's place in professional animation, but if not carefully balanced with the right jokes and action, it tends to irritate viewers over the age of 6. Chuck Jones made quite a few cartoons for Warner starring a character named Sniffles the Mouse. Most of you kids have never seen any of the Sniffles cartoons. He doesn't get played on TV often because he was so cute the movie audiences needed air sickness bags.

So far I like what I see, but caution should be exercised against rampant and excessive cuteness.

Thank you for making a great point...I am well aware of the Sniffles cartoons...luckily Yaki and Yumi may be "cute" at times, but they are also a little demented, and....well...gross (as bats can be) "Happy Tree Friends" are also very cute..but that doesn't mean much for those who have seen those shorts, right?..I don't want to ruin any surprises..just stay tuned for the show :)
Don't worry though..Yaki and Yumi's blood and guts won't be exploding all over the place or anything...thank god. Nickelodeon IS a kid friendly place.
